Private events at Temecula wineries — birthdays, showers, retirements, family reunions — book by calling the winery directly with date, group size, and budget. Small groups (10–20) fit boutique wineries like PAMEC; larger groups (40–80) need full event teams at venues like Wilson Creek or Ponte.
Outside of weddings and corporate events, a huge portion of what Temecula wineries actually book is in the private event category — birthdays, showers, retirement parties, family reunions, intimate anniversary dinners, holiday gatherings. The booking process is different from weddings (less formal) and different from a regular tasting (more coordination). This guide explains how it actually works.

What Counts as a Private Event
“Private event” usually means one of:
- A reserved area or private room within a winery, with your group only
- A buyout of a small tasting room or section for a defined window
- A guided private tasting with a host or winemaker
- A private dinner with wine pairings
- A baby shower, bridal shower, retirement party, or birthday gathering with semi-private arrangements
Most private events in Temecula run between 10 and 60 guests. Anything larger usually crosses over into wedding-style booking with separate fees and different venues.
How Private Events Get Priced
Most Temecula wineries price private events one of three ways:
- Per-person tasting fee + minimum food/beverage spend. Most common. You commit to a per-head tasting fee (often $35–75 per person) plus a minimum bar/food spend on the day.
- Flat rental fee + per-person tasting. The venue charges a flat fee for the space (e.g., $500–2,000 depending on size) plus per-person tasting fees on top.
- All-in package. A flat per-person price that bundles the tasting, food, and a reserved area.
Always confirm: what’s included, what’s à la carte (especially food add-ons), and what the minimum total spend is.
Best Wineries for Private Events at Different Scales
Small private events (10–20 people)
For small private events, the best fit is usually a smaller tasting room that can dedicate a host to your group. Doffo, PAMEC, Hart, Foot Path, and Vindemia all do this well. The smaller producers often offer the most personal experience because the staff aren’t pulled across multiple groups.
Medium private events (20–40 people)
You’ll need a venue with a reservable patio or private room. Mount Palomar, Robert Renzoni, Lorimar, and Bel Vino all have suitable spaces. Confirm capacity in writing — “patio” can mean very different things at different wineries.
Larger private events (40–80 people)
The bigger estates with dedicated event teams handle this scale: Wilson Creek, Ponte, South Coast, Europa Village. Lead time matters — book 8–16 weeks ahead for peak season.
What PAMEC Hosts Privately
Our Old Town tasting room is small. We host private events in two main formats:
- Semi-private patio reservation for groups of 10–20. We hold a section of the patio for you, pour a curated tasting flight, and add cheese and charcuterie. You’re not the only group at the winery but you have your own dedicated space and host.
- Full buyout for groups of 25–35 during off-peak hours (typically Thursday or Friday late afternoon). Your group only. Customizable flight, food, and timing.
Pricing is per-person with a minimum spend. Email us through the reservation form with date, group size, and what you’re celebrating, and we’ll come back with a quote within 24 hours.
Lead Time Reality
People underestimate how far in advance Temecula wineries book private events. Realistic timing:
- Off-season (December–March), weekday: 2–4 weeks lead time
- Off-season, weekend: 4–8 weeks
- Peak season (April–June, September–November), weekday: 6–10 weeks
- Peak season, weekend: 10–16 weeks
- Holiday weekends, peak season Saturdays: 4–6 months
What to Confirm in Writing
- Date and time slot with a defined start and end
- Specific space reserved (room name or area, not “the patio”)
- Guest count — both the booked count and the policy on day-of additions or no-shows
- Inclusions — tasting flight, food, glassware, plates, host, music
- Outside vendors policy — cake, photographer, florist
- Bar setup — open bar, cash bar, host bar with limits
- Service charges and tax on top of the quoted per-person price
- Cancellation and rescheduling policy
- Weather backup if outdoor
- Parking — especially if a charter bus or limo is involved
The Walk-Through
For events of 20+ people, do an in-person walk-through of the space before you book. Photos misrepresent. Specifically:
- Stand where the host or speaker would stand. Can your guests hear?
- Sit at the most distant table. Can you see what’s happening?
- Test the noise level — is the rest of the winery crowd going to drown your group?
- Check the bathroom situation, especially for groups with kids or older guests.
- Walk the route from parking. Long uphill walks are hard on some guests.
Common Add-Ons to Ask About
- Cheese and charcuterie boards — usually $15–25 per person extra
- Custom tasting flights — winery may pour off-menu wines for an upcharge
- Wine education segments — winemaker visit or guided pairing
- Custom labels on commemorative bottles — minimum order quantities apply
- Photographer recommendations — most wineries have a preferred list
- Florist or décor partners
- Live music — many wineries can recommend a duo or trio
